Summary:
The College of Nursing Clinical Teaching Assistant are those who meet the qualifications as set forth by the Ohio Board of Nursing in chapter 4723-5-10 of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC).
A teaching assistantis a person who assists and works at the direction of a faculty member providing instruction in the classroom, laboratory, or in a clinical setting in which nursing care is delivered to an individual or group of individuals, and who meets the qualifications set forth in this chapter (OAC, 4723-5-01).
The College of Nursing Learning Laboratory Teaching Assistant is responsible providing oversight and guidance of students' in a skills laboratory setting.
Essential Functions:
1.
Prepares and clears equipment for nursing skills classes.
2.
Communicates with nursing faculty in preparation for skills lab and competencies.
3.
Ensures lab is clean, safe and organized.
4.
Provides assistance to faculty and students in use of the laboratory resources.
5.
Continually assesses functioning of laboratory equipment and notifies Coordinator of Nursing Learning Laboratory any need for repairs.
6.
Promotes safe lab practices according to practice standards.
7.
Follows guidelines in handling and disposing of hazardous materials.
8.
Participates in department meetings and department accreditation activities 9.
Maintains statistics on student use of the nursing learning laboratory through Tutor Trac application 10.
Guide student practice of clinical nursing skills providing supportive and corrective feedback.
11.
Provide access for nursing students to equipment and supplies for independent practice of clinical skills.
12.
Participate in 1:
1 student appointments, which may include competencies.
13.
Participate in simulation learning including development, set up, operation and feedback.
14.
Completes calibration of simulators/mannequins prior to skills lab.
15.
Under the direction of the course faculty members provides lab evaluation feedback for course evaluations.
16.
Maintains communication in a timely manner with appropriate semester participants via communication forums, email, phone, etc.
by contacting the course faculty regarding students who are not meeting lab learning outcomes/objectives.
17.
Provides input into course development in collaboration with course faculty and/or Coordinator of the Nursing Learning Laboratory.
18.
Nursing Learning Laboratory Teaching Assistants are compensated based on the number of hours worked.
An additional hour of preparation time per week may be requested by staff to the Coordinator of the Nursing Learning Laboratory.
19.
Nursing Learning Laboratory Teaching Assistants who are hired in a per diem position are required to work one shift per pay period based on the needs of the nursing learning laboratory schedule.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
1.
Submit and maintain Lourdes University College of Nursing health and professional requirements 2.
Submit an annual Curriculum Vitae when requested.
3.
Utilize online learning platforms as resources for lab class, practice, and competencies.
4.
Identify, in a timely fashion, the need for re-ordering lab supplies and equipment.
Notify administrative assistant and the Coordinator of the Nursing Learning Laboratory of needs.
5.
Attend College of Nursing Development and Nursing Learning Lab meetings.
6.
Participate in annual evaluations with the Coordinator of the Nursing Learning Lab.
7.
All other duties that may facilitate functions within the Nursing Learning Lab as assigned by the Coordinator of the Lab, Program Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Graduate Nursing Administration.
8.
Oversee front desk duties, when needed.

Qualifications for a teaching assistant as defined in rule 4723-5-10 of the Ohio Administrative Code:
Completion of an approved registered nursing education program in jurisdiction as defined rule 4723-5-01 of the Administrative Code Experience for at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse A baccalaureate degree in nursing or enrollment in a graduate level course in a program for registered nurses to obtain a master's or doctoral degree with a major in nursing Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.
